Stefanesti Vineyard

Vineyard in Muntenia
Stefanesti Vineyard overview map
Since the era of Mihnea Voda (1507), noble vineyards have graced the hills surrounding Pitesti, with mentions of Coasta Campului, Izvorani, Targul din Deal, Stefanesti, and Valeni. By the 18th century, Stefanesti emerged as the prominent hub of the Pitesti vineyard, noted for its special market, Targul Dealului, dedicated to wine trade. Positioned in the central-southern part of the Subcarpathians of Muntenia, this vineyard encompasses the platform area, slopes, and a section of the left meadow of Arges. Stretching between the towns of Valea Mare - Stefanesti at 44° 55' north latitude and Valea Mare (Dambovita county) at 44° 42' northern latitude, the Pitesti vineyard boasts a rich history intertwined with the cultural and vinicultural heritage of the region.

The Stefanesti - Arges vineyard, a cradle of viticultural excellence, unfolds across three distinctive wine-growing centers: Stefanesti and Topoloveni in Arges county and Valea Mare in Dambovita county.

This terroir is predominantly dedicated to cultivating superior-quality white wines, and within the Stefanesti vineyard, the climatic conditions are particularly favorable for the traditional grape varieties Feteasca Alba and Feteasca Regala. This region also embraces the cultivation of internationally acclaimed white grape varieties, including Chardonnay, Pinot Gris, Sauvignon Blanc, and Welschriesling. When it comes to red wines, the Stefanesti vineyard takes pride in nurturing the indigenous Feteasca Neagra alongside internationally recognized varieties such as Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. A noteworthy mention goes to the aromatic variety Tamaioasa Romaneasca, which, deeply rooted in tradition, graces the vineyards of Stefanesti and yields wines of exceptional finesse.

The vineyard's geographical reach spans the picturesque landscapes of Arges and Dambovita counties, creating a terroir that has contributed to the cultivation of exceptional wines.
