The Istria-Babadag vineyard forms part of the Dobrogea wine region, one of Romania's most distinctive viticultural landscapes. Situated between the Danube Delta and the Black Sea, the vineyard occupies an area where maritime and continental influences meet. Its relatively mild winters, generous sunshine and moderated temperatures create favorable conditions for a broad range of grape varieties.
The soils add another layer to Babadag's viticultural identity. Clay, sandy deposits and loam occur throughout the area, providing a combination of water retention and drainage that allows vines to develop deep and balanced root systems. Together with the warm growing season, these conditions support good grape maturation while preserving the freshness needed for expressive wines.
White varieties play an important role in the vineyard. Traditional Feteasca Regala grows alongside internationally established varieties such as Pinot Gris, Aligote, Italian Riesling and Sauvignon Blanc. The combination of sunlight and the moderating influence of the nearby Black Sea helps these grapes develop aromatic expression while retaining balance and freshness.
Babadag is equally capable of producing expressive red wines. Pinot Noir, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon benefit from the region's long, sunny growing season. The resulting wines contribute another dimension to Dobrogea's wine identity, combining ripe fruit with structure and the particular character created by this meeting point between the continental interior and the Black Sea.
