Balla Geza Winery lies in the historic Minis-Maderat vineyard of western Romania, where steep hillsides and elevated sites create one of the country's most distinctive wine landscapes. Many of the vineyards rise above 400 metres, bringing freshness and definition to the wines.
Limestone-rich schist soils give the vineyards a strikingly rocky character and play an important role in the identity of the estate. This terroir is particularly associated with the winery's Stonewine range, created to express the mineral and structured character of these hillside parcels.
At the centre of the estate is Balla Geza himself, owner, winemaker and one of the important figures of western Romanian wine. His work combines practical experience in the vineyard and cellar with a long-standing commitment to wine education.
