Cotesti Vineyard

Vineyard in Moldavia Wine Region
Cotesti

The Cotesti vineyard graces the southern sector of the Vrancea piedmont, nestled in the embrace of the eastern Carpathians and Subcarpathians. From the north, it seamlessly joins with the vineyards of Panciu and Odobesti, collectively known as the famous "Vrancene vineyards" or "Putnene." This picturesque region, where rolling hills and fertile valleys converge, has witnessed the art of winemaking since ancient times.

Archaeological finds in the Cotesti vineyard reveal a rich history of viticulture dating back to the era of the local Geto-Dacians. Remnants discovered over the years confirm that communities in this area have been dedicated to winemaking since the 15th century. Today, the Cotesti vineyard stands as a lasting testament to this winemaking heritage.

The favorable conditions in the Cotesti vineyard - blessed by the sun and the unique terroir - provide an ideal setting for excellence in viticulture. As the vines sway in the gentle breeze and the grapes ripen under the warm sun, each harvest tells a story of dedication and tradition. The Cotesti vineyard, spanning 6589 hectares, forms a natural continuation of the plantations of the Odobesti vineyard. This sunlit viticultural paradise includes several vineyard centers, including Cotesti, Virtescoiu, Cirligele, Urechesti, Timboiești, and Dumbraveni.

The Girboiu Winery stands as a shining example of this success, thanks to the exceptional quality of the terroir.

Traditional Romanian varieties such as Sarba, Plavaie, Feteasca Alba, Babeasca Neagra, and Feteasca Neagra thrive alongside esteemed international varieties like Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Merlot.
