Sangiovese

In Romania, around 73 hectares are cultivated with Sangiovese. This variety is less widespread compared to other international or indigenous varieties. However, several Romanian producers have begun to cultivate Sangiovese in various wine regions, including Muntenia, Dobrogea, and Transylvania.
The moderate-continental climate in these regions provides favorable conditions for Sangiovese cultivation, and the varied soils contribute to the development and maturation of the grapes.
Sangiovese wines produced in Romania can vary in style but often retain the specific acidity and tannin characteristics of the variety. They may exhibit aromas of both red and black fruits, accompanied by subtle nuances of spices and herbs.
Although Sangiovese production in Romania is still developing and not as widespread as in other wine-producing countries, interest in this variety is growing. Romanian producers are increasingly exploring its potential to create quality wines. Sangiovese adds diversity to Romania's wine landscape and offers exciting opportunities for the production of distinctive and characterful wines.
