The Lechinta vineyard occupies the northeastern part of the Transylvanian Plateau, between the Somesul Mare and Mures rivers. Extending across both sides of the 47th parallel, its viticultural landscape is almost entirely defined by hills, from the Bistrita and Mures hills in the east to the higher terrain of the Eastern Transylvanian Plain in the west.
Vineyards are dispersed across slopes generally situated between 300 and 500 metres above sea level, with varying exposures and gradients. This elevated landscape, together with Transylvania's cooler continental conditions, allows grapes to mature gradually while retaining natural acidity and aromatic freshness. These characteristics have become an important part of Lechinta's contemporary wine identity.
The soils add another layer of complexity. Clay, limestone and loam occur throughout the vineyard, creating different combinations of drainage, mineral composition and nutrient availability. Together with altitude and exposure, these variations contribute to wines known for fruit expression, freshness, pronounced acidity and clearly defined varietal aromas.
Lechinta is particularly suited to aromatic and cool-climate white varieties. Gewurztraminer, Pinot Gris, Muscat Ottonel, Sauvignon Blanc, Italian Riesling, Feteasca Regala, Feteasca Alba and Chardonnay form the core of a diverse portfolio in which aromatic intensity is balanced by the vineyard's characteristic freshness.
The vineyard also carries an important historical identity. During the Austro-Hungarian period, the wines of this part of Transylvania acquired a reputation that became associated with the idea of an "imperial wine" landscape. That heritage remains an evocative part of Lechinta's story, but today's producers increasingly complement it with modern vineyard management and precise winemaking.
Lechinta therefore brings together two defining elements: the historical prestige of an old Transylvanian wine landscape and the natural advantages of high-elevation vineyards. The result is a distinctive identity built around elegant white wines with freshness, aromatic complexity and a vibrant expression of their varieties and origin.
