The Cotesti vineyard covers approximately 6,589 hectares and forms a natural continuation of the plantations of the Odobesti vineyard. Its wine-growing landscape is organised around several traditional centres, including Cotesti, Virtescoiu, Cirligele, Urechesti, Timboiesti and Dumbraveni. Together, these areas create a broad and varied viticultural zone shaped by hills, valleys and favourable exposures.
In recent decades, Cotesti has undergone an important period of renewal. Older vineyards have been replanted, modern viticultural practices have expanded, and a new generation of wineries has contributed to a stronger contemporary identity. Producers such as Girboiu Winery have helped bring greater international attention to the area through increasingly ambitious wines and strong results in international competitions.
Cotesti has a particularly diverse portfolio of grape varieties. Traditional Romanian grapes such as Sarba, Plavaie, Feteasca Alba, Babeasca Neagra and Feteasca Neagra remain important expressions of the local wine heritage.
International varieties including Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot further broaden the stylistic range of the vineyard. This combination of native and international grapes allows Cotesti to produce everything from fresh aromatic whites to structured red wines, while preserving a strong connection to the viticultural identity of Vrancea.
Discover wines from the historic hills of Vrancea, from native Sarba, Plavaie and Feteasca varieties to expressive international whites and structured red wines shaped by the diverse terroir of Cotesti.
