Plavaie
Today, Plavaie is cultivated on 139 hectares, primarily in the Odobesti vineyard, and to a lesser extent in the Panciu and Cotesti vineyards. This variety thrives in Moldova’s moderate climate, where cool nights preserve the grapes' natural acidity and fresh aromas.
Plavaie wines are known for their bright acidity and light body, offering a bouquet of green apple, pear, and floral notes such as acacia and lime blossoms. These characteristics are complemented by subtle minerality, making Plavaie wines exceptionally food-friendly and versatile. They pair well with seafood, light pastas, and fresh cheeses, enhancing the flavors without overpowering them. Additionally, Plavaie’s ability to produce sparkling wines adds a celebratory dimension to this varietal. While best enjoyed young for their freshness, some vintages benefit from short-term aging, which enhances complexity.
Among the wineries producing Plavaie, Girboiu Winery stands out as a key representative of this varietal in Romania.
